During the holiday season, communities band together to ensure that even those in need feel loved and taken care of.
The Hope Community Fellowship Church in Weissport did its part on Sunday afternoon by hosting a free turkey dinner.Although the Rev. Samuel Carey is new to the church, he is continuing the eight-year tradition of having the turkey dinner."The way we look at it is Jesus called us to serve people," Carey said. "This is a chance to serve."The dinner included all of the holiday trimmings, such as stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn and cranberry sauce.Ten volunteers began preparing on Saturday night by roasting the turkeys and starting on the side dishes. The dinner has served many people over the years, with sometimes as many as 100 people being served."There's a lot of need in this town," said Mayla Midina, a church member. "We're 100 percent willing to feed you, serve you."The church will host a Christmas service on Sunday beginning at 10:20 a.m. The church is located at 306 Bridge St., Weissport.
