Police: Andreas teen sprays fellow students with fire extinguisher

Tamaqua Police have filed a juvenile petition against a Tamaqua Area High School student from Andreas after an assault on March 4.

It was after school, between 3:15 and 3:30 p.m., when the 16-year-old male discharged a fire extinguisher at two fellow students. Victims told police they were assaulted with the chemical discharge twice within minutes.The first time, they were speaking with some friends when their classmate approached and used the extinguisher, spraying a cloud of chemicals in their direction.Minutes later, when the victims were in a truck near the intersection of Coal and Penn streets, the assailant drove his vehicle around them and again discharged the extinguisher at them. In the close confines of the truck, the victims began choking and their eyes watered, causing the driver’s foot to slip off the clutch. His truck jerked forward, striking the rear of the Andreas’ teen’s vehicle.The incident was recorded by other students.The victims went home and were transported to the hospital by their parents as they continued to have trouble breathing. They were treated and released.Officers were able to acquire a copy of the video from the incident, which confirmed the victims’ reports.
