Jim Thorpe High School Class of 1964 reunion committee decided not to have a regular reunion this year. Instead, the committee decided to hold a "70th Birthday Bash."
The committee, which is under the direction of Ed Solomon, came up with the idea late last year after the class's 50-year reunion, since many of the members will turn 70 this year. Committee members include Bill Diehm, Darlene Benyo, Sharon Kobal, Ann Louise Hayes, Pat McCormick, and Jon and Greta Weaver. The event was held Sept. 17.The special weekend began with a "meet and greet" deck party at Molly McGuire's Pub and Steak House in Jim Thorpe. On Saturday afternoon, some members of the class took a scenic train ride through the Lehigh Gorge.On Saturday evening, 60 classmates, spouses and friends enjoyed an evening of celebration at the American Legion Post 314 in Lehighton. Special guests for the even included Dolly Weaver, mother of Jon Weaver, and Al Feuerstein, father of Kay Feuerstein Murphy.Class President Jeff James addressed the attendees. Eileen Morgan and Murphy lit candles for recently deceased members Margaret Becker Lovell and Donna Gerber Nilon, as well as other deceased members of the class.Following dinner, Natalie Kmetz led the group in singing "Happy Birthday," followed by a cake and ice cream. Dancing was provided by DJ Bill.Other members of the class who attended include: Harry Eisenhart, Connie Schlecht Guzzi, Anne Marie Biank Panik, Joann Lienhard Murtoff, Joann Kibler McCoy, Helen Guth Bretzik, Pat Pry McCormick, Eileen Windbeck Morgan, Phyllis Burnhauser Barry, Lester Dunstan, Alan DeMichael, Ron Hydro, Rich Benyo, Fred Armbruster, Fred Bresswein, Russ Balkendo and Irv Walck.
