Tamaqua teen facing charges in burglary at Speedway store

A Tamaqua teen is facing charges, including burglary, following an incident that occurred early on April 3.

Borough police said at 12:36 a.m. they were dispatched to the Speedway located along Route 309 South. The alarm company reported a male teen was in the store, which was closed for the day.

As police arrived a man wearing all black and carrying a backpack ran out the back door.

State police at Frackville had a patrol unit in the area and found a teen matching the description in the East End of the borough. The teen was identified as a 16-year-old from Tamaqua. He had items from the store and multiple other items were found in the area of the store which the man said he dropped while running away. A total of $294.94 worth of items were taken.

Among the items taken included 10 packs of “JUUL” 3% vapes cartridges, four pods in each pack; four packs of JUUL 5% vapes cartridges, two pods in each pack; and two packs of cigarettes.

Also, he admitted shutting off the power to a cooler causing $102 worth of items to spoil.

Police said he used a crowbar on a back door to the building to enter and exit.

West Penn Township police also assisted.

The teen will face burglary and related charges in the county juvenile court system.
