Albrightsville man charged in child rape

An Albrightsville man was charged by state police for raping a child.

According to state police at Fern Ridge, William Joseph Pedroza II, 41, of 214 Nosirrah Road, was arrested in connection with a sexual assault that was reported to police on June 30.The parents of the 11-year-old female, as well as hospital staff at Pocono Medical Center reported the sexual assault.According to the affidavit, the incident happened at Pedroza's home during a sleepover party. The victim had been sleeping over at Pedroza's for the last few nights because she was friends with Pedroza's stepdaughter. The affidavit states that in the early morning hours of June 30, Pedroza allegedly crept into bed with the girl after everyone was asleep and performed unwanted acts on the child. He then stopped, the affidavit says, and told the victim "I'm sorry. Don't tell anybody because I don't want to go to prison and not be able to see my family."Following the incident, the girl insisted on going home and Pedroza complied, calling her mother at 3 a.m. to say that she needed to be picked up because she wanted to leave and he didn't know why, but speculated that it may have been due to his son using wart remover earlier in the evening.Through discussions with her daughter, the victim's mother learned of the assault and contacted authorities after taking her daughter to get examined by medical staff.State troopers interviewed the girl, who identified Pedroza. He admitted to having intercourse with the child. He was charged with one count each rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, and aggressive indecent assault of a child, all felony one charges; and one count each indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age and corruption of minors, both felony three charges.Pedroza was arraigned before District Judge Edward Lewis, who set bail at $100,000. He is confined to Carbon County Correctional Facility after being unable to post bail.A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 8.
