A Weatherly man pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Tuesday to two counts of flight to avoid apprehension stemming from incidents that occurred only a few minutes apart. He entered a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.
Mitchell Lee Sharpe, 33, also pleaded to two motor vehicle code violations for an incident on June 11. Weatherly officer Ryan J. Mariano observed Sharpe operating an all-terrain vehicle along Laurel Street and attempted a traffic stop because Sharpe was not wearing a protective helmet. Sharpe fled. A few minutes later officer Edward Kubert observed Sharpe on Hill Street and yelled for him stop, but again Sharpe fled. Later the same day Sharpe appeared at the police station and admitted he was the operator of the ATV.Matika placed him on probation for a total of 18 months and ordered him to render 75 hours of community service. On the two summary offenses he was fined a total of $125.
