Three people were injured in a two-car crash Thursday night in Mahoning Township on Route 209.
Township police Chief Audie Mertz said seven people were involved in the crash, which was reported at 10:48 p.m.
Mertz said the incident occurred when a 2011 Ford Edge driven by Dylan Saunders, 18, of Jim Thorpe, was traveling northbound on 209, when while going through a right-hand curve, lost control and crossed over into the oncoming lane, at which time he hit a 1995 Jeep Cherokee driven by Lisa Sittler, 48, of Jim Thorpe.
There were five people in the Ford vehicle. Of those, only the rear passenger sustained an unknown injury and had to be transported to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest.
There were two people in the Jeep, in which Sittler sustained a minor injury, while the passenger, Paulette Haupt, 48, of Jim Thorpe, sustained a suspected minor injury. Both had to be transported as well, one to St. Luke's Hospital-Miner's Campus in Coaldale, and the other to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest.
Mertz said the crash occurred during slippery road conditions.
Saunders has been cited for careless driving and driving at safe speed, he said.
The Lehighton Fire Department removed the occupants, while Lehighton and Nesquehoning emergency response crews also assisted at the scene.
