Coaldale fugitive taken into custody

Coaldale fugitive Joseph R. Becker, wanted in connection with a reported robbery in Lansford on June 5, was caught by Rush Township Police Tuesday afternoon. Becker, whose photo has been published by local media and online, was recognized by alert employees of St. Luke’s Health Center on Claremont Avenue in Hometown, who then contacted police.

Becker and an accomplice, Christopher Keer, also of Coaldale, allegedly robbed Lansford resident George Becker of $1,475 last Thursday. According to the victim, Joe Becker held him from behind, in a bear hug, while Keer took the money.

After arresting Becker, Rush Police turned him over to Lansford Police, who then arraigned him before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek in Lansford on charges of forcible robbery, a felony three offense, and misdemeanor counts of unlawful restraint, two counts of simple assault and theft by unlawful taking.

Keer was captured last Thursday night by Lansford Police and arraigned on similar charges.

Bail was set at $100,000 straight. Unable to post bail, Becker was lodged in the Carbon County Prison.
