Two defendants scheduled for preliminary hearings before District Judge Steven Bayer of Tamaqua last week were in court for multiple offenses.
April Ann Reznick, 32, of 407 Willing St., Tamaqua, was in court for a Sept. 5 incident in which she was accused of assaulting a woman, stealing $200 and smashing the victim's cellphone. Charges of robbery were withdrawn, while charges of simple assault, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, harassment and criminal mischief were all waived to the county court level. Those charges were filed by Tamaqua patrolman Anthony Stanell.Stanell picked Reznick up on Sept. 23, due to an arrest warrant from the earlier incident. As he was arresting her, Stanell found a razor blade, orange capped syringes, small rubber bands, half straws with residue, small baggies with residue, a spoon, cotton swabs and a small orange paper, suspected to be the drug suboxone, on her person or in a backpack she was carrying.She waived charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.Bail for the assault case was set at $5,000 unsecured, while she was released on her own recognizance in the drug case.Anthony Powell, 45, of 147 E. Adams St., McAdoo, had two preliminary hearings scheduled before Bayer.In the first case, from Aug. 31, Powell waived charges of receiving stolen property and retail theft to county court. The charges were filed by McAdoo patrolman Anthony Divirgilio.The second case was related to an attempted Sept. 19 traffic stop conducted by Rush Township patrolman Bradley Hess. Charges of fleeing, failure to use proper turn signals, careless driving, making an illegal turn, reckless driving, failure to keep right and driving under the influence of a controlled substance were all bound over for trial in Schuylkill County court. A charge of reckless endangerment and one count of DUI were dismissed.Bail for the retail theft case was recognizance, while the DUI case had bail reduced from $25,000 percentage to $500 percentage. Powell was able to post the required $50.Phillip Michael Ryan, 26, of 402 Hazle St., Tamaqua, waived charges of reckless endangerment, possession of a controlled substance and disorderly conduct to county court. He was charged by Tamaqua patrolman Karl Harig after he reportedly entered a residence on Cherry Street on Oct. 2 and grabbed a female resident during a confrontation. Charges of burglary, criminal trespass and simple assault were withdrawn.Ryan remains in the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville in lieu of $25,000 bail.John Raymond Miller, 20, of 213 Tresckow Road, McAdoo, failed to appear for a hearing on charges of criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and damage to property. The charges were filed by Kline Township Police Chief John Petrilla following a Sept. 24 incident. All of the charges were held for court.A warrant was issued for his arrest.Joseph J. Michaels, 25, of 1049 Barnesville Drive, Barnesville, waived a hearing on charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property. The charges stem from an Aug. 22 incident and were filed by Hess.Michaels was released on his own recognizance.Christopher Keer, 26, of 23 W. Ruddle St., Coaldale, waived charges of possession of drug paraphernalia to the Schuylkill County court. He was charged by Coaldale Police Sgt. Keith Krapf following a July 21 incident.Keer was released on his own recognizance.Adam Lutz, 29, of 42 W. Blaine St., McAdoo, waived a hearing on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. The charge was filed by McAdoo Police Chief Wainwright following an Oct. 1, 2014, incident.Lutz was released on $500 percentage bail.Kevin M. Trant, 25, of Erial, New Jersey, waived a hearing on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, which were filed by McAdoo patrolman William Curilla after a June 16, 2014, incident.Trant was released on his own recognizance.
