August 24, 1952 — Johnny Zuru’s solo homer in the bottom of the 10th inning lifts St. Michael’s to a 7-6 comeback victory over St. Cyril and Methodius to clinch the Panther Valley Catholic League championship. The Lansford squad trails by three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but RBI singles from Walter Slog and Andy Snoha help force extra innings. Zuru finishes with three hits and three runs, while Slog, Eddie Chuckran and Andy Zolota all end with a pair of hits. Mike Harvan tosses all 10 innings, striking out eight, to earn the pitching win.
