3 inmates face charges in Nesquehoning
Three Carbon County inmates face various charges, including bringing drugs into prison and failing to show up for their sentence.
Natan Jakubov, 41, of Brooklyn, New York, faces three drug-related charges.According to the affidavit, filed by Nesquehoning police officer Carl Breiner, on March 5, at approximately 6 a.m., the prison contacted police about Jakubov bringing hashish into the prison.Jakubov was there after being arraigned on separate charges in Kidder Township relating to drug possession.When he was searched by prison staff, they found a small folded piece of wax paper with a brown substance inside.Jakubov told prison guards that it was hashish.Kari Anne Whiteman, 38, of Palmerton, faces three drug-related charges.According to the affidavit, filed by Breiner, on Jan. 12, he was contacted by the prison about an inmate bringing drugs into the prison.Prison staff found Whiteman to be in possession of methamphetamine.When Breiner arrived at the prison, he spoke with Whiteman, who admitted having the drugs in her bra when she came to the prison.Timothy Hugh O'Brien, 28, of Coaldale, faces a charge of escape after being sentenced to prison but not showing up.According to the affidavit, filed by Breiner, on Nov. 22, the Carbon County District Attorney's office called Nesquehoning police to report that O'Brien failed to report to the jail after he was ordered to do so by the court.O'Brien was furloughed from the prison in order to go to the Salvation Army in Wilkes-Barre that was related to his sentence for a driving under the influence arrest.According to the court order, if at any time O'Brien was unsuccessfully discharged or left the Salvation Army before completing the program, he was instructed to "immediately report to the Carbon County Correctional Facility or he may be charged with escape for failing to do so."O'Brien left the Salvation Army on Oct. 5 without successfully completing the program but did not return to prison.He then went back to the Salvation Army on Jan. 11, but left again on Jan. 13 without completing the course.
