Historical society

The Palmerton Area Historical Society will present “Road Trip” by Lynn Shupp at its Monday meeting. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Palmerton Area Library’s Gallery. Call 610-824-6954 or 610-767-5638 for information. The snow date is March 18. The public is invited to attend without cost or obligation.

Spring basket social

Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 500 Church Drive, Palmerton (Trachsville), will hold its annual spring basket social from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. There will be door prizes at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. They will have barbecue, homemade soups, chow chow, etc. and baked goods for sale. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

There will be a basket raffle. Three baskets will have $25 hidden among the contents. Come have lunch and try your luck. Call 610-681-5200 for information.

Jerusalem UCC

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, will hold services at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. This will be Girl Scout Sunday. There will be a special offering for the Scouts that morning. The Scouts will also be greeting and handing out the bulletins.

Bible Study will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursdays March 7 and 14. The group is discussing “why we believe what we believe.” Everyone is welcome.

Heritage center

The Palmerton Area Heritage Center is located at 410 Delaware Ave., Palmerton. The center provides a history of the Palmerton area from pre-Revolutionary War times to the present. It serves as a museum that showcases the historical society’s collection and is used as a resource for educating about the areas rich history. Call 610-824-6954 for information.

Family history

Come to the Palmerton Area Library from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday to learn how to research your family history.

St. Patty’s party

The Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club, 525 Club Road, Bowmanstown will host a St. Patty’s Day Party from 6-10 p.m. March 16. Doors open at 6 p.m. Music by Jesse Wade begins at 7 p.m.

Raising the House

The Raising the House 5K walk/run will be held at 10 a.m. March 23. Visit www.raisingthehouse.org for information. You must register by March 8 to be guaranteed a race T-shirt.

‘Pa. Roadshow’

“Pa. Roadshow” is a photo showing hosted by Lynn Shupp and the Palmerton Area Library. If you didn’t have the chance to see this show in Harrisburg, now is your chance locally. Plus, for those who didn’t travel to see it, Lynn has added some more pieces. From March 8 to 18 it will be displayed in the Knights Gallery of the library.

To speak with the artist you are welcome to the artist reception from 1-3 p.m. on March 17.

‘How I Became a Pirate’

This is a play presented by the 2019 Senior Theatre Company of the Lehigh Valley Charter High School For the Arts. The play is based on the book “How I Became a Pirate” by Melinda Long.

It will be held at 10:30 a.m. March 15 in the upstairs Gallery of the Palmerton Area Library, 402 Delaware Ave., Palmerton. This is free and open to the public.

Lenten service

Five area churches join together each year for Wednesday evening Lenten Services. Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Salem-St. Paul Lutheran, St. Matthew’s UCC, and Salem United Church of Christ will hold a joint service on March 13 at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Trachsville. The preacher will be Deb Scheffey. The theme will be “Salt and Light.”

A simple soup supper will be held from 6-6:45 p.m. Worship service will begin at 7 p.m. Choir rehearsal will be at 6:30 p.m. Host choir directors will choose an easy anthem. Choir members from all churches are invited to attend the rehearsal and sing each week.

Council meetings

The regular meetings of the Palmerton Borough Council for March will be at 7 p.m. March 14 and 28 in Borough Hall Council Chambers, 443 Delaware Ave., Palmerton.
