Army war veteran gets Purple Heart after more than 60 years

EASTON (AP) - A U.S. Army war veteran in Pennsylvania has been awarded a Purple Heart after waiting more than 60 years.

Eighty-seven-year-old Paul Dorney had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from October 1951 to February 1952.

His daughter tells The (Easton) Express-Times (http://bit.ly/1mQ45GY ) Dorney was seriously wounded in action by a missile. He received a Bronze Star after he was discharged and then learned he was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he sustained, but never received it.

Dorney finally received the award during a surprise celebration with his family and friends at an Easton rehabilitation center on Sunday.

Dorney's daughter says he became emotional when he saw veterans holding the medal.

She says she didn't want to wait any longer for her father to receive it.
