Dorney, Knoebels delay opening for season

Two area amusement parks that many resident frequent each summer have announced that they are delaying their opening weekends as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg and Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom in Allentown are both postponing their season.

“After much discussion and monitoring of the quickly changing COVID-19 situation, we’ve made the decision to delay the start of our 2020 season by two weeks,” Knoebels posted on its Facebook page.

The opening weekend for the park is May 9 and 10.

Ride passes, campground, cottage and picnic reservations for the weekends of April 25-26 and May 2-3 will be rescheduled for later in the season.

“Thank you for your understanding, support and patience as we do our best to navigate this situation,” Knoebels posted.

Changes to the schedule have been updated on Knoebels’ website and via its Facebook page.

Like Knoebels, Dorney officials also announced that the start of the seasons has been delayed to mid-May or soon after that as possible.

“We believe this decision is in the best interest of our associates, our guests and our community,” Dorney posted on Facebook.

Richard Zimmerman, CEO of Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, the parent company of Dorney, posted on Dorney’s website that the safety and well-being of the guests and associates is the company’s top priority.

Season passholders will get additional days to the park’s calendar and also get added value benefits that will be announce at the park’s opening.
