Fanciful painting marathon at Jim Thorpe gallery

The Anita Shapolsky Art Foundation, 20 W. Broadway, Jim Thorpe, will host the second annual Painting Marathon, for artists and anyone with the desire to try painting.

Artists ages 10 and up are eligible to participate and will create work most of the time between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 30. There is an entry fee, and seniors are discounted.Wooden racks to hold paintings in progress will be set up outdoors around the historic, 1849 church that the foundation owns and uses as an art museum. Artists may also paint nearby Jim Thorpe scenes.Materials, which include 12-inch by 12-inch wooden surfaces, paint and brushes, will be provided to artists, or artists may bring their own materials.At 4 p.m. foundation director Anita Shapolsky, a longtime gallery owner in New York City, will judge the artwork created and award four cash prizes in two categories: Adults, 18 and over: Most Original, $75; Best of Show, $75; Youth, 10-17: Most Original, $25; Best of Show, $25.Artists may sell created work for pick up after judging or on another weekend.
