Senior Center

The menu at the Panther Valley Senior Center for the week of May 27-31 is:

Monday: Center closed in observance of Memorial Day.

Tuesday: Chicken and sausage bake, cheesy potatoes, cornbread, fruit salad or chicken club sandwich

Wednesday: Roast chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, biscuit, berry crisp or beef spinach sandwich

Thursday: Hot dog, macaroni salad, baked beans, ice cream

Friday: Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, apple slices or beet and chicken salad

Coaldale

Memorial Day service

Local armed forces veterans will be recognized Sunday during the annual Memorial Day Observance and Worship Service at First Congregational Church, Coaldale. A slide program featuring photographs of numerous area veterans will begin at 8:45 a.m., before the 9 a.m. service.

Pastor Steven Nemeth invites all service men and women, as well as their families, to attend.

The Memorial Day Ecumenical Choir, consisting of members of Panther Valley, Mahoning Valley and Tamaqua churches, will present patriotic selections.

Choir rehearsal will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church, located at 130 E. Ruddle St.

Following the service, a brunch will be held in the church social hall.

Borough secretary

The Coaldale borough secretary’s office will be closed for vacation beginning at noon on Friday through June 3.

The office will reopen for business on June 4.

Summit Hill

Free concert

The Cressona Community Band will be performing a free concert in Summit Hill’s Ludlow Park at 7 p.m. on June 26.

The show will include a variety of patriotic songs, songs of yesteryear and others.

The public is welcome to attend and bring lawn chairs.

The Cressona Band is a nonprofit organization consisting of musicians of all ages from Carbon, Schuylkill and surrounding counties. The band rehearses and performs from April until September.
