Is a new Irish pub-style business headed to Palmerton?
In accordance with that, Borough Council agreed on a 6-0 vote Thursday to advertise to hold a public hearing for a liquor license transfer. Council President Terry Costenbader was absent.The liquor license is scheduled to be transferred from Jim Thorpe, with current owners Bernardo Rojas and Susan Rojas, doing businesses as "Pepperjacks" at 41 Broadway, Jim Thorpe, to 315 Lehigh Avenue, Palmerton.According to correspondence submitted to the borough, Thomas M. Dowling and his daughter, Kyla Buluc, both of Kunkletown, have agreed to purchase 315 Lehigh Avenue, which most recently operated as "Jereme's Place".The property, which is currently owned by David Periera, has been closed for over a year.Dowling and Buluc want to open an authentic Irish pub and restaurant, to be called T.T. Dowling's Irish Pub, LLC. They intend to specialize in Irish stout, ales, etc. and Irish fare, including stews, sheperd's pie, steaks, fish and chips, as well as American fare.The restaurant license they have contracted to buy is currently located in Jim Thorpe.The hearing will be conducted when council meets at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26.In other business, council:- Approved a three-year contract for the Teamster's Local 773 non-uniform employees.- Agreed to hire Darryl Roberts as a substitute crossing guard, at a rate of $10 an hour.- Agreed, on a 5-0 vote, with an abstention from Councilman Jason Behler, to hire Kyle Behler and Jarred Harry as seasonal workers, at the rate of $7.25 an hour.- Appointed borough secretary Donna McGarry as the privacy official for the borough's group health plan.- Announced that Trick or Treat will be held in the borough from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30. The rain date is Thursday, Oct. 31.
