Lansford police officer injured in crash

A Lansford police officer was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon in a violent crash in the borough.

Shorty after 4 p.m. a car driven by a man with a female passenger and a child were going down the Lansford - Summit Hill hill when the brakes gave out on the car.The car raced down the long, steep hill into Lansford and after making it through several intersections slammed into several vehicles at the intersection of Spring Garden and Patterson streets.One of the cars was occupied by an on-duty police officer enroute to file charges against a meth dealer. That officer was rushed to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma Center in Allentown.Four other people were injured in the incident.Route 209 was closed for hours.Lansford police chief Jack Soberick is in charge of the investigation. Lansford police were assisted at the scene by numerous neighboring police departments.
