Doctor gets OK for parking lot alterations

A local doctor received conditional approval on parking lot alterations during the Mahoning Township board of supervisors meeting on Wednesday.

Dr. Max Gideon, who has an office at 1638 Blakeslee Blvd. Drive East, had previously attended a planning commission meeting to express his concern about limited employee parking at his office."Currently, we have four employees that park their cars in the front of the property, in the patients' parking spots. We have some parking spots at the rear of the property. All I would like to do is elongate four spots, to allow the four employees that park in the front to park in the back of the property," Gideon said.Gideon also requested waiving the requirement for a land development plan, which the commission agreed upon. The commission's only caveat was that the extended spaces had to accommodate for proper drainage."The planning commission unanimously approved his request … and recommended waiving the land development plan, conditioned upon those four spaces being paved or surfaced with a permeable material," Supervisor Bruce Steigerwalt said.Although Gideon had obtained estimates for paving materials to cover the spaces, the board of supervisors recommended exploring other options. In the end, Gideon was granted conditional approval for the extensions. The board of supervisors also decided to hold another recycling event, which they have tentatively scheduled from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 21.The supervisors have decided to have two trucks available, allowing for more recycling drop-offs, thanks to the overwhelming number of residents who participated in the last event.
