A Carbon County man was given a county jail term on Monday in the county court for his part in the operation of a methamphetamine lab in Lehighton.

Floyd Warren Michael, 28, of Palmerton, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve seven to one day less 24 months in prison on a charge of criminal conspiracy-manufacture of a controlled substance.He was arrested along with Todd Stephen Greene, 38, when agents of the state Attorney General's office and the county drug task force and local police officers served a search warrant at 400 Mahoning St., Lehighton, on March 9.Seized during the raid were four plastic bottles containing suspected liquid meth residue, un-iodized salt, lighter fluid, drain opener, sulfuric acid, muriatic acid, aluminum foil, coffee filters and vinyl tubing.At the time of his arrest Michael told police he had been using meth, which was produced by Greene for the prior two weeks before the raid, according to the arrest report.Yesterday defense attorney Joseph D. Perilli told the court that his client has had struggles with drug addiction in his life. He claimed that Michael was not actually involved in the making of the meth but was using it. He said Michael happened to be at the home when the search warrant was executed. He said Michael did admit bringing lighter fluid to the home the day of the search.On the day of the arrest Greene told police Michael was involved in the making of the meth.Serfass noted from a presentence investigation (PSI) report prepared by the adult probation office that he "acted stupid that day" and did a "stupid thing."In addition to the jail term, Serfass ordered Michael supply a DNA sample, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance on D&A use, have no contact with Greene, and was granted work release privileges. He must also pay court costs, which average close to $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee when released on parole.He was given credit for 114 days spent in jail to date on the charges.Greene's case is still pending with a pretrial conference scheduled in the district attorney's office on Aug. 1.
