Two men scheduled for preliminary hearings before District Magisterial Judge Stephen Bayer on June 20 decided to skip their hearings and now have warrants issued for their arrests.
Michael Fitzsimmons, 38, of Coaldale, was supposed to be in court to answer to charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges were filed by Coaldale Police Chief Keith Krapf in connection with a May 10 incident.All of the charges were held for court trial.Marquise Vargas, 21, of Weatherly, was due in court on a charge of retail theft, filed by Rush Township patrolman Ryan Oldt. The theft was reported on Feb. 15.The charge was held for county court.Defendants who chose to waive their preliminary hearings included:Michael C. Hill Jr., of Tamaqua, charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license, filed by Tamaqua Cpl. Henry Woods. The charges stem from an April 13 incident.Hill's bail was reduced from the original $20,000 percentage to $20,000 unsecured;Taryn Lee Depos, 31, of Tamaqua, was charged with possession of a controlled substance after a Dec. 18, 2015, incident. The charge was filed by Tamaqua patrolman Karl Harig.Depos was returned to prison where she is lodged on other drug-related charges;Brittney A. Pester, 27, of Quakake, was in court on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges were filed by Rush Township patrolman Oldt after a Jan. 12 incident.Pester was released on her own recognizance;Suzan Sinton, 55, of Nesquehoning, had charges of aggravated assault withdrawn, then waived charges of simple assault and resisting arrest. She was charged by Rush Township patrolman Oldt after an April 14 incident.Sinton was released on her own recognizance;James Leo Maranki, 57, of Northampton, faces charges of harassment and disorderly conduct, filed by Kline Township patrolman John Petrilla Jr. after a March 30 incident.Maranki was released on his own recognizance;Matthew Joseph Bahrey, 24, of McAdoo, charged by Kline Township patrolman Frederick Lahovski with witness intimidation, defiant trespass and harassment. The charges were filed in connection with a May 5 incident.Bahrey was released on his own recognizance;Christopher Ryan Horhay, 25, of McAdoo, was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, disregarding a traffic lane, driving over a divider and reckless driving by Kline Township patrolman Petrilla. The charges were filed after a Feb. 27 incident.Horhay was released on his own recognizance;Thomas J. Gaughan Sr., 55, of McAdoo, charged with two counts of making false reports to law enforcement. The charges are from an Oct. 16, 2016, incident and were filed by McAdoo patrolman Anthony DiVirgilio.Gaughan was released on his own recognizance;Samantha Lynn Kuhn, 28, of Lehighton, was charged with making false unsworn statements to authorities, hindering law enforcement, providing false identification and driving with a suspended license. The charges are from an April 21 incident and were filed by Tamaqua patrolman Harig.Kuntz was released on her own recognizance.
