Monroe County man charged in fatal shooting
A Monroe County man has been charged with the shooting death of his girlfriend in their home in Tobyhanna.
Pocono Mountain Regional police announced they have charged Eric Jones, 31, with criminal homicide and multiple other charges in the shooting death of Morgan McGee, 28, at their 6107 Boardwalk Drive residence.Police said the slaying occurred during the early morning hours Tuesday.Police were dispatched around 3:20 a.m. to the residence for a deceased woman. On scene, they found the body of McGee inside the home and that she had signs of trauma.Police said it appeared she had a gunshot wound to the face. Also in the home was a 1-year-old child, who was unharmed. The investigation revealed that the original call concerning the death of a woman was made by a relative of Jones, who is the father of the child in the home. The relative had been contacted by Steven Lundy, who told them to go to the Tobyhanna address to get the child inside.Upon the arrival of relatives, the body of McGee was found and 911 was called.Police said their investigation determined that earlier in the morning, arguing was heard coming from the home followed by two possible gunshots. A vehicle was then seen leaving the area.A witness said that the vehicle that left was known to be that of McGee and Jones and that the driver appeared to be Jones. The investigation further uncovered that the only occupants of the home were McGee, Jones and the child. While police were at the scene, Jones arrived on foot. Jones was intoxicated and created a disturbance, police said.He was taken into custody for public drunkenness. The continuing investigation revealed that Jones had gone to Lundy's home and was highly intoxicated. During this time Jones told Lundy, who was a friend, that he had an altercation with McGee. Jones said to Lundy he was concerned about the child being in the home. This prompted Lundy to call for assistance. He later dropped Jones off at his parents' home.Police also said they were provided a description of what Jones was wearing during the time frame of the incident, which was not completely consistent with what he was wearing when taken into custody.Police learned that before being taken into custody, Jones had been wearing different footwear. Police located this footwear at his parents' home. The footwear found had bloodstains on it.During a search of the Boardwalk residence, McGee was found to have sustained two wounds consistent with gunshots. Police also located evidence consistent with drug dealing and transactions including cellular communications. In addition to the homicide charge, Jones is also charged with persons not to possess firearms, discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, endangering the welfare of a child, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and false reports to law enforcement.Jones was committed to the county prison in Snydersville pending arraignment this morning before a district judge. Since he is charged with homicide, no bail can be set.
