St. Joseph Parish hosts annual festival

St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley will host the 83rd annual parish festival starting at 5 p.m. today.

The festival features an assortment of homemade ethnic foods, nightly entertainment, children’s activities, a theme basket Chinese auction, baked goods and plant sales and more.Local musician Jay Smarr will kick off the event at 5 p.m. Friday.Saturday’s celebrations begin with the 18th annual Two Saints Scamper. Registration for the 5K begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race starts at 9. The fourth annual John “Toot” O’Gurek Horseshoe Tournament will also begin at 9:30 a.m. Registration for the tournament is 8:30 a.m. in the church hall.A vigil Mass will take place at 4 p.m. and the festival will begin around 5.Saturday’s entertainment will be provided by Honky Tonk Medics.On Sunday, following the 11 a.m. Mass, there will be an exposition of the Blessed Sacrament until 3 p.m. when the statue of St. Gabriel will be processed through the west end of town by members of the St. Gabriel Italian Club and parish, as well as the children from this year’s first holy Communion class. All are welcome to participate in the procession.The festival will open following the procession.Sunday’s entertainment will be Toolshed Jack.The three-day event will conclude with a fireworks display after 10 p.m.
