Five defendants in pending driving under the influence cases entered guilty pleas on Thursday in Carbon County court.
Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted pleas from the following:Dennis John Godown, 60, of Saylorsburg, was arrested on March 17 along Delaware Avenue in Palmerton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.13 BAC. Sentencing was deferred so Godown can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Laura Kay Andrews, 34, of Allentown, was arrested on Aug. 6, 2016, along First Street by Lehighton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. Police responded to a one-vehicle accident in which Andrews was the driver.Sentencing was deferred so Andrews can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Joshua Dennis Richardson, 33, of Slatington, was arrested on March 23 along Delaware Avenue by Palmerton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Serfass sentenced him to serve 72 hours to 6 months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension, render 25 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.He will begin the jail term at 5:30 p.m. on July 27.Richard Moore Viands II, 23, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 21 along Route 443 by Lehighton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Viands can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Hector Luis Belmis Jr., 26, of Allentown, was arrested on April 29, 2015, along Bridge Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Belmis was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked from it for violating conditions.Sentencing was deferred to Belmis can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
