Franklin Township police were forced to shut down one of the two northbound lanes of Route 209 after a vehicle dumped an unknown substance along the busy roadway.

The incident occurred just before 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Members of the Franklin Township Fire Company washed the substance from the roadway.

Franklin Township fire police maintained traffic control at the scene.
