Cyclist struck by vehicle in Ryan Township

A bicyclist was injured after being struck by a vehicle near Tuscarora State Park Friday morning, according to police.

The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Foothill Street in Ryan Township, Schuylkill County.According to state police at Frackville, the driver of a 2003 Buick struck a cyclist from the rear at the crest of a small rise about 100 feet east of Tuscarora Mountain Road.Both the cyclist and driver were headed eastbound toward the park entrance.Police said that the rise obscured the view of the road ahead.The cyclist, identified as 63-year-old Nina Day of Barnesville, was taken to an area hospital with a serious leg injury.The driver, 78-year-old Leonard Kurpell of Mahanoy City, was not injured.In addition to state police, Ryan Township Fire, Ambulance and Police personnel responded to the scene.No further details were available.
