Man charged with sex assault of dementia patient

A Weatherly man is facing rape charges for the alleged sexual assault of an elderly woman with dementia.

Burton Young, 65, was a resident at Weatherwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center when he forced another resident to perform oral sex on him, according to police.A preliminary hearing for Young was continued Wednesday because he does not yet have an attorney.Police said the incident occurred July 30.His alleged victim could not recall the incident. However when asked if she would have consented to the act, she responded, "Oh Lord no, I would never."Young denied the allegations and told police that he was not taking his medication at the time. However, officials said they believe that it was not the first time he abused a fellow resident.A voice mail left with Weatherwood's Director of Nursing was not returned Wednesday.Police interviewed two employees who witnessed the alleged assault.Dana Leibig told police that she was walking in the nursing home when she observed Young assaulting the elderly woman. She said she yelled, "Excuse me," which prompted him to run into the dining room of the facility. When a supervisor confronted Young, he became angry and told her, "I don't want to be here and I will do it again," according to police.Another witness, Danielle Yagalla, who was right behind Leibig when she observed the assault, asked the victim what happened. She said the woman told her that Young forced her to perform oral sex on him.Young was interviewed by police a week after the incident and denied the allegations. He said he had not been taking his medication, and that he "would not have done this in my right state of mind."He said he has done a lot of stupid things because he wanted answers and wanted to be moved closer to home.He was charged Aug. 21 with rape of a disabled person, indecent exposure, and indecent exposure to a person with a mental disability. He was arraigned and locked up at Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 bail.
