Police: Letters stolen from Lehighton mailbox

Did you use the drive-thru mailbox at the Lehighton Post Office last Thursday or Friday?

Police say you should verify whether your mail reached its destination.

Someone allegedly stole outgoing mail from the mailbox on those days by blocking the drop chute.

It's believed the suspect or suspects were looking for personal information.

The alleged theft was discovered after Mahoning Township Police found checks discarded along Center Street in the Jamestown section of the township. The checks were discovered Saturday around 11:15 a.m.

Three potential victims were identified from the checks and contacted by police.

Police determined the checks were stolen from the outgoing mailbox that sits on the curb outside the Lehighton Post Office.

Post office employees discovered the chute had been glued shut on Friday.

The potential victims in the case deposited their mail in the chute between Thursday and Friday.

Anyone who used the drive-thru mailbox located on the curb on North Street should check if if their mail was delivered.
