Four area residents among 10 to enter guilty pleas in Schuylkill

Four area residents were among 10 who entered guilty pleas to criminal charges in the Schuylkill County Court and were sentenced by President Judge William E. Baldwin.

Michael Todd Brode, 20, of 24 Lower Road, Tamaqua, pleaded guilty to a number of criminal charges.On a charge of escaping from police custody but re-captured was given credit for serving 186 days in prison and was released on parole for 23 months; on one count of simple assault was sentenced to serve an additional 12 months probation; and on a charge of resisting arrest received a concurrent 12 months probation sentence.He was cited for the charges by Tamaqua Sgt. Richard Weaver.On a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) was placed on probation for six months to run concurrent with the escape charge, pay a fine of $500, pay $100 to Substance Abuse Education (SAE) fund, $50 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account (CJEA), attend alcohol highway safe driving school and make restitution of $2,443.10 to Samantha Richardson. He was cited by Patrolman Thomas Rodgers, Tamaqua Police. On charges of escape from a district justice office after a hearing and resisting arrest he received a concurrent 12 months probation sentence and on a charge of simple assault on Jusltin and Ciana Startzel received a concurrent 12 months probation sentence. The charges were filed by Tamaqua Patrolman Karl Harig II. His total sentence comes to 35 months on probation.John Anthony Cambra III, 29, of 1045 Barnesville Drive, Barnesville, on a charge of DUI was sentenced to serve six months on probation, pay a fine of $300, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA, enroll in alcohol highway safe driving school, receive intensive outpatient counseling and submit to random tests. Cambra was cited by Mahanoy City Patrolman Jonathan McHugh.John Paul Dankulich, 55, of 337 Valley Street, Brockton, on a DUI charge was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in the county prison effective Monday, May 23, pay a fine of $1,000, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center, and submit to random tests. On a charge of driving while his license was suspended was fined $200 plus $50 costs. Dankulich was cited by Schuylkill Haven Patrolman David T. George.He also pleaded guilty to possession of a small amount of marijuana and received a 30 days probation concurrent sentence and on a charge of public drunkenness was fined $25. He was cited by Pottsville Patrolman Joseph R. Welsh.Jeremy D. Alford, 32, of 522 E. Elm St., Tamaqua, on a DUI charge was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in prison effective May 20 at 5 p.m., pay a fine of $1,000, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50to CJEA, $200 to Catastrophe fund, complete safety school and receive outpatient substance abuse counseling. On a charge of driver required to be licensed was fined $200 and for failing to drive on right side of road was fined $25 plus $100 in costs. Alford was cited by Tamaqua Patrolman Thomas Duarte.Luke John Pennypacker, 32, Gordon, on a charge of criminal mischief to Drunken Monkey Bar, Ashland, was placed on probation 18 months, pay $50 to CJEA, and ordered to successfully complete Anger Management program. He was cited by Ashland Patrolman Mark O'Hearn.John G. Hummel, 54, Pottsville, on a charge of indecent assault on an employee at Fuel On Convenience Store in Minersville was placed on probation 12 months, pay $50 to CJEA, and have no contact with the victim and is barred from the store. Hummel was cited by Patrolman Jeffrey R. Bowers.Phillip Michael Hoptak, 23. Palo Alto, on a charge of simple assault on Tiffany Tassone, Pottsville, was given credit for serving 45 days in the county prison and released on parole for 23 months and make restitutiion of $190 to the victim for damages to her car. On a charge of resisting arrest has to serve an additional 12 months on probation. He was cited by Pottsville Patrolman Brian W. Kotzmoyer.Mark Anthony Smith Jr., 23, Pottsville, on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was placed on probation 12 months, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA, and make restitution of $176 to Bethlehem Regional Lab. On a charge of driving an unregistered vehicle was fined $75 and failing to have a valid inspection certificate on his car was fined $25 plus $100 in costs. Smith was cited by Pottsville Patrolman Joseph R. Welsh.Gregory Alan Aungst, 38, Pine Grove, on a charge of DUI was sentenced to serve 30 days to six months in the county prison effective Wednesday, May 25, at 9 a.m., pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center, pay a fine of $750 and receive intensive outpatient substance abuse counseling. On a charge of driving while his license was suspended was fined $200 plus $50 costs. Aungst was cited by Trooper David F. Beam on SR209 in Pine Grove.Melissa Dawn Snyder, 33, Ashland, pleaded guilty to a number of charges.On a charge of DUI was sentenced to serve 48 hours to six months in the county prison, pay a fine of $500, pay $100 to SAE fund, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center, $50 to CJEA, complete safety school. Snyder was cited by Girardville Patrolman James Patterson. On a charge of retail theft from Redner's Warehouse Market in Shenandoah she was ordered to serve an additional 17 months on probation.On charges of tampering with evidence, giving unsworn false information to police, obstructing the administration of law and recklessly endangering another person by driving an all terrain vehicle (ATV) on a railroad in Gilberton was given a concurrent 17 months probation sentence and on a charge of operating the vehicle on streets was fined $25 plus $50 costs. Snyder was cited by Gilberton Chief Mark Kessler.Each defendant must also pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
