April 29, 1953 Bobby Popik and Frank Zlock both win two events to help Lansford's track team gain a 71-38 victory over Coaldale. Popik claims the shot put and discus, while Zlock captures the javelin and high jump. The Panthers, coached by Johnny Chuckran, also receive firsts from John Gallagher (880), Francis McNelis (mile), Charlie Wernert (broad jump) and John Kanuch (pole vault). Coaldale's Pete Julo turns in an outstanding effort despite his team's loss. Julo breaks the tape first in the 100, 220 and 440.
