Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met Aug. 20 for a "Beginning Day" picnic at Lake Hauto. Festivities included great food, games and lots of fun, as well as making plans for the future. Collected school supplies and personal items were donated to the Bethany Children's Home.Members are planning to take on the "Escape Room" at Country Junction in October.The first meeting of this service year will be at 7

President Melody Weicker conducted the business session and provided the inspirational reading "A Powerful Tool."Jim Sloboda was added to the sick list.Warm welcomes were extended to returning members Pat Regalis and Pat Brown, as well as guest Rita Thompson.Upcoming events include: Sept. 14, picnic at noon at the West Penn Rod and Gun Club; Sept. 18, Dutchway Restaurant in Myerstown; Sept. 21, nominations for officers; Oct. 18, Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes-Barre.The group is open to anyone 55 or older.Meetings are held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E.
