Local Roundup: Results from April 28
Panther Valley registered wins in both baseball and softball action on Monday.
The Panther baseball squad defeated Mahanoy Area, while the softball team crushed Shenandoah.
Elsewhere, Tamaqua, Palmerton and Northwestern also picked up softball victories.
SOFTBALL
Jim Thorpe-Palmerton
After defeating Jim Thorpe last Thursday, Palmerton made it two in a row over the Olympians by posting a 13-2 Colonial League victory.
Hailey Barry struck out six, walked four and only allowed just two runs on two hits for the win.
Tessa Sander led the way for the Bombers offensively with two doubles and three RBIs, while both Mackenzie Ferber and Grace Schneider ended with two doubles and two RBIs.
The winners, who exploded for seven runs in the first inning, also received a double and two RBIs from Madeline Thomas.
For Thorpe, Hannah Zacharias and Julianna Frantz accounted for their team’s hits.

Lehighton-Northwestern
In a Colonial League contest at DeSales University, Northwestern only needed three innings to gain a 17-0 victory over Lehighton.
Abby Dunstan capped a 10-run opening inning with a grand slam, while Shelby Mitman got the scoring started with a base-loaded walk that scored Emma Freeman.
Freeman earned the pitching win for the Tigers, as she surrendered just one hit — a single to the Indians’ Makayla Scott in the first inning. Freeman walked two and struck out five.
Northwestern’s Ainsley Behler finished 3-for-3 with a single, double and triple. Behler scored twice and knocked in three runs.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain
An outstanding pitching performance by Naomi Knitter allowed Tamaqua to earn a 1-0 Schuylkill League victory over Blue Mountain.
Knitter tossed a four-hit shutout, walking two while striking out 14, to keep the Blue Raiders in the hunt for a league playoff spot.
The game’s only run came in the second inning when Liz Crowley led off with a walk and eventually scored on a throwing error after stealing third base.
Tamaqua, which trails the Eagles by a game in the standings for the second Division 1 wild card spot, received two hits from both Kolbe Robb and Chloe Brown.

Morgan O’Brien’s two home runs and four RBIs highlighted Panther Valley’s 15-0 non-league victory over Shenandoah Valley.
O’Brien, the Panthers’ No. 9 hitter in their lineup, blasted two-run homers in both the first and second innings. O’Brien also drew a walk and scored three runs.
Kyla McQuillen and Myla Krapf both finished with a single, double and two runs, while Krapf added two RBIs. Brooklynn Mika also contributed a triple and three RBIs.
Paige Goida tossed three scoreless innings, striking out four, for the win.

Williams Valley pushed its winning streak to seven games, as the Vikings registered a 11-4 non-league victory over Northern Lehigh.
Sage Smeltz paced the winners with a single, triple, run scored and five RBIs, while Olivia Hand — Williams Valley’s starting pitcher — helped her own cause out with three hits, including two singles, a triple and three runs.
In the circle, Hand struck out six and allowed just one walk.
For the Bulldogs, Tegan Simms finished with a single, a triple and an RBI, while Addison Smith added a triple and two RBIs.

Panther Vy.-Mahanoy Area
Panther Valley ended a five-game losing streak with an 8-6 non-league victory over Mahanoy Area.
Brody Breiner collected two hits, one a double, scored three runs and had an RBI for the Panthers, who snapped a 6-6 tie with a pair of runs in the sixth inning.
The winners also received a double and three RBIs from Logan Fisher, while Connor Penberth reached base four times with two hits and two walks and also scored twice.
Starter Cameron Caffery pitched three scoreless innings, while Brady Jones earned the win in relief, allowing run in three frames while striking out five.
For the Bears, Owen Ogrodnick, Mikey Oblas and Levi Terry all had two hits and an RBI.

Ben Weninger and Jack Streeter both had a double and knocked in two runs to help Parkland post a 10-3 EPC victory over host Pleasant Valley.
The Trojans, who broke a 3-3 tie with a six-run fifth inning, also received a hit and two runs from Aiden Henning. Steven Sepko earned the win, tossing three scoreless innings.
For the Bears, Braydon Green, Jacob George and Sam Smale all collected a hit and an RBI.

Executive Education used a huge 12-run second inning to gain a 15-0 non-league victory over Weatherly.
R Araujo paced the winners with two hits, both of them doubles, and four RBIs. J Rodriguez added a pair of hits and knocked in three.
The Wreckers failed to get a hit during the three-inning contest.

In Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action in Brodheadsville, Stroudsburg traveled back home with a complete sweep of host Pleasant Valley.
Regardless of the 62-88 setback to the Mounties, Jareal Moore (100, 200), Demetrius Outten (110H, 300H) and Uriah Gearhart (Long jump, triple jump) walked off with multiple firsts for the Bears.
Keeley Lawrence crossed the line first in the 1600-meter run for the Lady Bears’ lone top honors on the day.
