Panther Valley approves intermediate, high school roof repairs
The Panther Valley School Board on Wednesday approved contracts for roofing repairs at the district’s intermediate and high schools.
Business manager Jesse Walck explained that grant funding will cover the $100,000 cost of the contract with Pro Con Roofing and Construction Services for roofing repairs at the intermediate school.
The district received a $795,000 Public School Facility Improvement grant under Act 34, which was part of Gov. Josh Shapiro’s 2023-24 budget. The funding was among the highest awards among Carbon County districts.
Walck said that the roofing work will close out the grant, which also funded the replacement of failing windows and doors, domestic water heaters, water system upgrades and electrical surge protection improvements.
The board also approved another contract with Pro Con Roofing for repairs to the roof at the high school. Walck credited Scott Fisher, maintenance supervisor, with getting additional repairs done while crews were on site.
“Scott did a lot of good work on this,” he said.
The second contract for roofing repairs came in at $66,175, and will come out of the district’s Capital Projects fund, and not affect the general fund, Walck said.
Fisher has also been proactive looking at the district’s service contracts, shopped around and was able to save the district $2,000 on a contract with Cintas for fire protection inspections for next school year, Walck said.
The board approved all three contracts Walck discussed.
