Tamaqua Community Day includes 5K, bike tours
The first Tamaqua Community Day on May 31 is shaping up to be a must-attend event, now featuring two exciting outdoor activities at the Owl Creek Reservoir — a 5K Fun Run/Walk and Guided Bike Tours.
The event, which runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the reservoir in Tamaqua, will include food trucks, live music and family-friendly fun for all ages.
The 5K Fun Run/Walk, sponsored by Lehigh Carbon Community College — Tamaqua, kicks off the day. On-site registration begins at 8 a.m. with the run to follow at 9 a.m. The event is open to all ages and experience levels. Whether you’re running or walking, organizers said it’s a great way to start the day outdoors. Participants can also register online at www.tamaqua.net/community-day.
In the afternoon, explore the trails with guided mountain bike tours sponsored by DNA Bikes of Tamaqua. Tours will leave at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Riders must bring their own mountain bike, and helmets are required. The tours are open to all ages and are a fantastic way to experience the natural beauty of the reservoir.
“We are thrilled to announce the addition of these great events to our first Tamaqua Community Day,” said Aimee Dotson, executive director of the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce.
“Owl Creek Reservoir is such a gem in our community, and we’re excited to highlight two great ways to take advantage of being in nature at such a special place,” she said. “We’re also thrilled to be partnering with the Owl Creek Commission and Explore Schuylkill for this event, and we sincerely thank them and all of our sponsors for their role in making this day possible.”
Dotson said more announcements about events will follow as organizers continue to build a day full of fun, adventure and celebration.
