Slatington’s postmaster is a familiar face
Slatington has a new postmaster — but she might not need an introduction.
Jasmine Rodrigues is a Slatington native. And not only that, Rodrigues carried mail to Slatington residents and businesses from 2017 to 2022.
“I like the community,” she said. “I know a lot of people in Slatington from carrying — and just from living there.”
Rodrigues was hired as postmaster for those in the 18080 ZIP code in February.
“Being the postmaster there is like coming home,” she said.
A 2008 graduate of Northern Lehigh School District, she didn’t immediately start working for the United States Postal Service.
She had additional schooling and another job before coming to the USPS as a Slatington letter carrier.
After that, she served as a supervisor for two years in Ephrata. Her next stop was a position as officer-in-charge of the Copley Post Office.
Late last year, Rodrigues became officer-in-charge of the Weatherly Post Office.
“And then Slatington finally posted (an opening for postmaster) and I got Slatington,” she said.
As a postmaster, she oversees mail collection, sorting and delivery processes, retail operations, budgets and expenses.
Rodrigues heads the 14-member workforce in Slatington, and additional workers who cover the nearby Cherryville and Slatedale post offices.
“I like the people that I work with,” she said.
An officer-in-charge last served the Slatington Post Office; Melinda Meleski was postmaster before that.
