April 24, 1969 — In a classic pitching duel involving two of the area’s best hurlers, Panther Valley pushes across on unearned run in the seventh inning to gain a 1-0 victory over Blue Mountain. In the final frame, Jim Secara walks and steals second. An error on a grounder off the bat of Bob Polinsky allows Secara to score the game’s only run. Polisnky tosses a one-hit shutout, striking out 13 — including nine in a row during one stretch. His counterpart, Lance Rautzhan, also pitches a one-hitter, with John Oransky collecting a double, and strikes out 13. Eight major league scouts are in attendance to watch the two pitchers. Polinsky eventully pitches in 164 minor league games while Rautzhan reaches the majors with the Dodgers and gets in 80 games with L.A. over a three-year span.
