Local roundup: Results from April 23

Jacob George sparked the Pleasant Valley baseball team to a much-needed win Wednesday, while Demetrius Outten helped deliver a track and field victory as the Bears split results with Pocono Mountain West.

BASEBALL

Pleasant Valley-ES North

Pleasant Valley snapped a four-game losing streak with a 7-3 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over East Stroudsburg North.

Jacob George led the Bears with a pair of two-run singles — one in the four-run first inning and another in the final scoring frame. The No. 2 hitter was the only player in the game with multiple hits.

Kole Henry added a single, drew a walk and scored twice.

Josiah Caceres entered in relief for the Timberwolves and helped limit further damage. He struck out 14 over 5 2/3 innings.

Southern Lehigh extended its winning streak to four with a 3-0 Colonial League victory over Jim Thorpe.

Gabe Moscato and Chris Fritts combined on a five-hit shutout for the Spartans. Moscato allowed all five hits, struck out seven, and didn’t issue a walk over six innings. Fritts struck out the side in the seventh to earn the save.

Brody Schrantz and Nathan Frantz each had two hits for the Olympians, who have dropped three of their last five games.

Pleasant Valley-PM West

In Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action, Pleasant Valley and Pocono Mountain West split results.

The Bears earned an 80-60 win in the boys’ meet, while the Lady Panthers posted a 97-40 victory in the girls’ meet.

Pleasant Valley’s Demetrius Outten won both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.

On the girls’ side, Kylie Fuentes claimed the javelin, while Eloise Rice won the pole vault for the Bears.
