NL recognizes students, thanks donors

Northern Lehigh School District recognized student successes, along with supporters and generous donors.

District Superintendent Dr. Matthew J. Link reported on successes and donations during last week’s board meeting.

What’s So Cool About Manufacturing

Link lauded the Northern Lehigh Middle School’s What’s So Cool About Manufacturing Team.

He said this year’s team included eighth graders Cameron Chruscial, Cole Chruscial, Zoey Fried, Ryder Gall, Adrian Hassold, Jaycie Longenbach and Chase Moyer, along with seventh graders Cadence Bradigan, Scarlett Gring, Naomi Hawk and Anna Karetsky.

Link said the students were led by adviser Mary Frank and partnered with Precision Roll Grinders.

“While they did not bring home a trophy this year, the quality of their video both in content and production was outstanding and reflected positively on both the community and our district,” Link said. “Thank you to this year’s What So Cool About Manufacturing team for your hard work and creativity.”

SADD Team

Link said that for the third consecutive year, the Northern Lehigh High School SADD Team won the Lehigh Valley Highway Safety Conference Division competing against 10 other districts across the region.

“This group of highly creative students produced a powerful video warning about the dangers and consequences of underage drinking and drinking and driving,” he said. “We are incredibly proud of their continued success and dedication to promoting safe choices among their peers.”

Link said this year’s team included Eli Grady, Sarah Hanzarik, Krista Lynch, Gabriella Hanna, Matt McCarty, Brody Rothrock, Reese Lipsky, Dekota Barthold, Katelynn Barthold, James Mann, Mikayla Gordon and Addison Cieri.

State champion

Link also announced that Northern Lehigh High School senior Gage Tessitore earned a gold medal in the Electronics Technology Competition and has qualified to compete at SkillsUSA Nationals this summer in Atlanta.

He noted that Tessitore is a fourth-year student in the Electronics Technology program at LCTI.

“Congratulations to Gage on this tremendous accomplishment,” Link said. “That is the second state champion Northern Lehigh student that has attended LCTI in the last three years; that’s remarkable for a school our size.”

Peters Elementary

As part of the Peters Elementary School Spring into Service Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support Rewards, Link said that LaBarre Construction and Outdoor Garden Supply in Slatington donated two buckets of river rocks for second-grade students to paint, and Bake Oven Gardens in Germansville donated three flats of pansies for the students to plant in the flower beds in the large plantar pots in front of the school.

“We truly appreciate their support in making this meaningful project possible for our students,” Link said.

NL Foundation

Link also thanked the Northern Lehigh Education Foundation for its “continued investment in our students even beyond graduation.”

“This year the foundation announced two new annual scholarships of $2,500 each; one for students pursuing a degree in an education-related field, someone that wants to be a teacher or school counselor or school psychologist; and one for those pursing careers in the skill trades.

“Their generosity continues to open the doors for our graduates.”

Neffs National Bank

Link also expressed the district’s sincere gratitude to The Neffs National Bank for its unwavering support.

He said that most recently Neffs donated $25,000 to the Northern Lehigh Education Foundation to fully fund the 2025 Elementary Summer Steam Camp.

“That will continue this year because of The Neffs National Bank and our Northern Lehigh Education Foundation,” he said. “It is due to their generosity and commitment to our students and summer enrichment opportunities that this camp will now run for the seventh consecutive year.”
