Monroe Co. approves labor agreements

Monroe County Commissioners approved a collective bargaining agreement with the Monroe County Detectives Association last week.

In the agreement, the commissioners accepted the arbitration award with detectives in the police union, pursuant to Act 111, which is the Pennsylvania Policemen and Firemen Collective Bargaining Act. The agreement is effective from Jan. 1 of this year to Dec. 31, 2028.

The commissioners also approved the labor agreement between the county and Teamsters Local Union 773 for employees at the Monroe County Correctional Facility. That contract runs from Jan. 1 of this year to Dec. 31, 2027.

Robert Gress, the chief clerk, said the employees will get a 6% raise for this year, and a 4% raise in 2026 and 2027.

In other business, the commissioners ratified two change orders related to the courthouse renovation and expansion project. These include Lobar Construction Inc. for an additional $8,780.14 for costs associated with extra floor prep, carpet installation and carpet runner installation, and LTS Plumbing and Heating Inc. for an additional $4,526.14 for costs associated with rerouting existing branch lines located above new elevator equipment in the Annex.

The commissioners adopted a resolution regarding the Community Development Block Grant FFY 2023 on behalf of East Stroudsburg borough. The borough asked to decrease the Housing Rehabilitation Program by $129,302 and apply that money to the Americans with Disabilities Act Ramps and Curb Cuts Program. The money will be used to repair or create 19 ramps and curb cuts in East Stroudsburg borough.

The commissioners also announced a certificate will be given to Eagle Scout Isabel Colefield for her accomplishment.

The board approved the use of Courthouse Square by the Monroe County Republican Committee for a rally from 1 to 4 p.m. on May 10.
