Leiby’s Ice Cream House in S. Tamaqua serving again

A popular South Tamaqua eatery is once again serving lunch and dinner.

Leiby’s Ice Cream House and Restaurant resumed its meal service earlier this month, according to owner Daniel Leiby.

“Some things have been removed from the menu and other things have been added,” he said.

Diners can order home-style platters, hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, burgers, seafood, salads, soups, appetizers and more.

“The current menu version is a bit of a placeholder as we try some things out,” Leiby said. “Some of the favorites that are currently missing from the everyday menu will be returning as specials as we are able to do them.”

And, of course, the restaurant at 848 West Penn Pike (Route 309) continues to offer a multitude of desserts — items like cake and pie — all baked on the premises.

Ice cream, churned at nearby Leiby’s Dairy, is a menu staple, too. Dozens of flavors are available by the scoop, in sundaes, or part of the giant-sized Atomic.

“On another note, I’m routinely asked about how people can access information if they aren’t on social media, etc.,” Leiby said, referring to the restaurant’s active presence on Facebook and other platforms.

To address it, the restaurant launched a new website, which can be found at leibysrestaurant.com.

“While there are a few things that need to be corrected, folks can now enter their email address and subscribe to our website — it’s free,” Leiby said.

By being on the email list, folks can learn about events, promotions, pie order deadlines and more.

“We may even offer subscriber-only deals from time to time,” Leiby said.

Information about ordering, reserving space for parties or large gatherings, and events like Mother’s Day is also available on the new website.

The reintroduction of the lunch and dinner menus comes after the restaurant limited its offerings in August to pies, cakes, ice cream, milkshakes, grab-and-go items and beverages.

When Leiby made the decision to cease the dining options in the summer, he said it was due to a number or reasons.

“Timing,” he said, was first and foremost.

Leiby noted that the restaurant continues to hire kitchen staff.

The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays to Sundays.
