State police plan sobriety checkpoints

State police at Troop N, Hazleton, have announced a sobriety checkpoint/moving DUI patrols will be conducted through the southern region of Luzerne County beginning today and continuing throughout the remainder of the month.

The operation is in support of STEAD-D, state police’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Against Drunk Driving.

Police said the program is designed to reduce alcohol-related traffic crashes using sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols on a regular basis.
