L.B. Morris hosts kindergarten special agent day

L.B. Morris Elementary School held its Annual Kindergarten Special Agent Day recently, welcoming Detective Lee Marzen as the guest speaker.

The event was organized by Claire Burns, health and physical education teacher, who created a program to teach kindergarten students the importance of being good “special agents.”

Approximately 70 students and their teachers dressed up as special agents or police officers for the day.

Burns presented a PowerPoint discussing key traits of a good special agent, including being kind, avoiding foolish behavior, standing up against bullying, and reporting when someone needs help or is being hurt.

She emphasized the importance of telling a trusted adult — whether a parent, teacher or police officer — when they need assistance.

Detective Marzen spoke to the students about his role as a police officer, describing his uniform and the gear he uses on the job.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions and view some of his equipment up close.

Detective Marzen said he values meeting with young students in person to help them feel comfortable around police officers.

School Security Officer D-Shawn Cham was also in attendance for the assembly.
