Lehighton Borough Council

Lehighton Borough Council took the following action last week:

• Approved payment application No. 4 for Advanced Pipe Technologies in the amount of $156,033, for Lehighton sewer system project.

• Agreed to purchase up to $10,000 of paving material from Lehigh Asphalt for East Alley roadwork between North and Coal Streets.

• Agreed to proceed with the subdivision of parcel 83B-38-A86A at the expense of Joe Marks.

• Accepted an offer to purchase three lots owned by the borough on or near Millway and Bridge streets, pending payment for Nanovic Law invoices.

• Granted conditional approval to MD Developer LLC for the Blocker minor subdivision at the recommendation of the planning commission.

• Accepted the 60-day extension letters for Armin Feldman, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Snyder subdivision at the recommendation of the planning commission.

• On a 5-0 vote, with one abstention, approved a resolution for authorization for Parks and Recreation to apply for future grant funding. Councilwoman Becky Worthy abstained.

• Agreed to advertise an ordinance adopting the 2021 International Property maintenance code.

• Approved advertising for a full-time utility billing clerk.

• Accepted the Civil Service letter of resignation from Duane Dellecker; appointed Timothy Fritz to fill vacancy.

• Accept the Civil Service Commission police officer.

• Accepted the planning commission letter of interest and appointed Chris Nothstein to fill the vacancy.

• Asked borough Manager Dane DeWire to reach out to the Carbon County Area Agency on Aging regarding the Nace property, as council believes it has exhausted all other options before filing a writ of execution on the property.

• Agreed to decommission patrol vehicle No. 5 and list the vehicle for public sale.

• Agreed to provide a $250 annual donation to the United Veterans Organization and approve the UVO weekend Memorial parade on May 25 and May 26.

• Approved Parks and Recreation’s Fourth of July Community Block Party, pending the completion and approval of special event plan, which is required because of a proposed road closure.

• Approved a resolution supporting the America250PA plan, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States.

• Approved a letter from the Carbon County Area Agency on Aging for use of the Recreation Center and Baer Memorial Field for the Carbon County Senior Games to be held from May 6-14.

• Approved the Seventh Street road closure for the Lehighton Lions/Lioness Carnival on May 10.

• Agreed to reschedule the August and November borough council meetings to Aug. 11 and Nov. 10.
