Man jailed, charged with choking woman
A Weatherly man has been charged with choking and assaulting a woman.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Joshua Pavlick of the Pennsylvania State Police, Hazleton barracks, in the case against William Titus:
At 6:22 p.m. March 30, Pavlick was dispatched to a home in the 1400 block of Quakake Road in Packer Township for an active domestic dispute.
Upon arriving, Pavlick spoke to a woman, who said that she got into an argument with Titus, 57.
The woman said the argument turned physical when Titus struck her with a closed fist in the face, causing bruising under her right eye.
Titus then pushed her to the floor and subsequently dragged her down a hallway.
The woman said Titus then proceeded to “choke” her, causing her not to be able to breathe and “hard enough” to cause her dentures to fall out of her mouth.
While she was on the floor, the woman said, Titus kicked her in the back and hip, which caused a bruise on her back consistent with a shoe imprint.
She was evaluated by Lehighton EMS and transported to a hospital for treatment.
Titus was not at the residence when troopers arrived, but he was later found in the woods behind the residence and taken into custody.
Police said Titus had a blue case that had two glass smoking pipes containing drug residue, and a small glass container containing suspected drug residue.
Titus faces charges of four counts of use/possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count each of strangulation, simple assault and harassment.
He is jailed in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 cash bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing April 16 before District Judge Joseph D. Homanko Sr. of Weatherly.
