Mahoning tables Rt. 902 mirror

Mahoning Township may look to put a mirror back up to improve safety along a roadway.

Supervisors on Wednesday discussed the intersection of Route 902 and Country Club Road.

A mirror that had been along a portion of Route 902 near the intersection has been down for about six months.

Supervisor Ron Reeser said there was a just a crash at the intersection last week.

“It’s two PennDOT roads that intersect,” Reeser said. “If we go ahead and affix that mirror, does that become our liability?”

The cost of the mirror would be minimal, with board Chairman Robert Slaw saying he believes the cost is inconsequential if it helps save a person’s life.

“I think that kind of money is cheap compared to (saving) a person’s life,” Slaw said. “I still think we should put one up.”

Reeser said that putting the mirror up wouldn’t take too much time.

Supervisor Deb McGowan said PennDOT just wants the mirror put on the post.

Reeser then suggested the township contact PennDOT and tell the agency that the township will put the mirror up if it provides traffic assistance.

The board then tabled the matter for the time being.
