Carbon County commissioners
The Carbon County commissioners approved or discussed the following items during their meeting last week.
• Tabled the opening of bids for a Community Development Block Grant project in Banks Township, which includes street improvements. The motion tabled the bids for two weeks.
• Approved a request from the Office of Planning and Development to rescind a previous motion regarding accepting bids for the reconstruction of the Lehighton American Legion Post 314 parking lot, as well as authorize readvertising a new invitation to bid for the project. The reason for the first advertisement being rescinded is due to unforeseen circumstances regarding more work that was needed.
• Authorized advertising an invitation to bid for food service at the Carbon County Correctional Facility via PennBid. The contract will be based off 151,000 meals a year and will begin June 1.
• Awarded two contracts for the Whole Home Repair Program to Mazzella Enterprises of Jim Thorpe.
• Approved a grant application submission to the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to support the purchase of 12 forensic cameras and associated equipment. It will be used to assist in death investigations and will enhance documentation, ensure accurate reporting and help in deaths that are complex and involve illicit substances. The total funding amount is for $30,048.
• Approved an agreement with Dell Technologies of Round Rock, Texas, for the purchase of a new PowerEdge network server at a cost of $20,959.45 and is through COSTARS.
• Approved a quote from Flowbird of Moorestown for a revision to the software on four parking kiosks to accept $20 bills. The revision is a one-time fee is $1,400.
• Ratified a cooperation agreement with Lansford for the borough’s Multimodal Transportation Fund grant in the amount of $313,000 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority to partially fund the construction of the Brimble Wall Replacement Project.
• Approved a modification to Lehighton’s CDBG 2024 funds, which reallocates $53,000 from ADA handicap accessible projects and $34,638 from the billing office project to the Community Grove Park to install ADA crossover/depressions.
• Approved a change order to a contract with Mazzella Enterprises for a Whole Home Repair Program project. The change order adds $6,000 to the contract, bringing it to $48,900.
• Ratified a grant application modification for funding from the PCCD for the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program. The amendment makes changes to personnel but the fund amount remains the same at $89,998.
• Approved an agreement with Johnson Controls Fire Protection LP of Allentown to add/relocate/upgrade several cameras in the courthouse at a total cost of $18,884.90. The project will be funded through a grant, as well as the sheriff’s general funds.
• Approved an agreement with Donna Fetzko of Albrightsville to provide health and wellness programs to older adults at a cost of $35 per session, effective March 20 through March 19, 2028.
• Approved an agreement for catering services at the Lehighton American Legion Post 314 on May 16 for the Carbon County Senior Games banquet. The facility rental fee is $300 and the catering service is $21.95 per person.
• Approved an agreement with William F. Anzalone Jr. of Anzalone LLC of Wilkes-Barre for services for mental health, competency evaluations and counseling for the public defender’s office at a rate of $300 per hour, effective through Dec. 31.
• Ratified the termination of an agreement with Thomson Reuters/West Publishing Corporation for the Westlaw Proflex for electronic access subscription package for the public defender’s office, effective May 31.
• Ratified the resolution recognizing Maureen Sterner as the 2025 Borough Manager of the Year through the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce.
• Approved a tax refund in the amount of $2,643.56 to Penn Forest Entertainment LLC, also known as Penn’s Peak. The refund is due to a court order lowering the assessment by $207,501.
