Beatles tribute band to appear at Penn’s Peak

Penn’s Peak announces 1964: The Tribute will appear on stage on Friday, June 27.

With more than 20 years of research and performances, 1964 has mastered the art of recreating The Beatles’ early live shows.

Hailed by critics and fans alike as the most authentic and endearing Beatles tribute, 1964 earned the distinction from Rolling Stone magazine as the “Best Beatles Tribute on Earth.”

The band faithfully recreates an early ’60s live Beatles concert with period-accurate instruments, clothing, hairstyles and onstage banter. 1964: The Tribute lineup: Mark Benson as John Lennon, Mac Ruffing as Paul McCartney, Tom Work as George Harrison and Bobby Potter as Ringo Starr.

Mark Benson and Gary Grimes (the original Paul) founded 1964: The Tribute alongside Tom Work and Greg George.

Mac Ruffing, though right-handed, learned to play bass left-handed to more accurately portray Paul McCartney.

As Benson often notes on stage, they originally thought the Beatles gig would last only a few lunchtime shows — never imagining it would continue for more than 20 years.

In addition to performing, Benson is a guitar luthier who maintains all of the band’s instruments. His two Rickenbacker 325 guitars are custom-made and modified to closely resemble and sound like John Lennon’s originals.

Tom Work can play both guitar parts of “And Your Bird Can Sing” at the same time. 1964 has performed to sold-out crowds at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Red Rocks Amphitheatre multiple times.

Tickets are on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets, the Penn’s Peak Box Office, and Roadies Restaurant and Bar. Tickets purchased at the Penn’s Peak Box Office and Roadies Restaurant are available for walk-up sales only — no phone orders.
