Pleasant Valley approves support staff changes

The Pleasant Valley School Board approved a change to the collective bargaining agreement between the school district and support staff. The Memorandum of Understanding was approved at their meeting Thursday night.

The district wanted to offer to employees who are not working in a support staff position, but transfer to one, the ability to qualify for step movement and wage increase after working for the district in general for half the year, not specifically in the support staff position.

Currently, the bargaining agreement limits the step movement and wage increase only to employees who have been in a support staff position for half the year.

The current collective bargaining agreement between the school district and the Pleasant Valley Educational Support Professionals Association (the support staff union) runs from July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2026. Both the support staff union and the Pleasant Valley Educational Association (the teachers’ union) have begun working with the school district on their next collective bargaining agreements.

The school board also approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the district and the teachers union regarding the resolution of a grievance. School board director John Gesiskie asked how many grievances were resolved, and Lori Fulmer, the director of Human Resources, said it was three. She said there is still one left to be settled.
