Carbon Senior Games set for May
It’s that time of year again for Carbon County seniors to gather together and compete in Olympic-style games.
The 2025 Senior Games will be from May 6-16.
Registration for seniors throughout Carbon County is now open. Signup forms are available at the five senior centers, as well as Area Agency on Aging in Palmerton.
During the games, events will begin at 9:30 a.m. most days, unless otherwise noted.
The games kick off on May 6 at the Lehighton Recreation Center, where the opening ceremony will be held, followed by corn hole, lunch, team pictures and ladder ball.
Participants from Panther Valley, Weatherly, Jim Thorpe, Lehighton and Palmerton senior centers are asked to bring one nonperishable food item for donation to the food bank.
On May 7, competition will include darts and basketball.
On May 8, billiards will be held at various locations in the county. The competition is broken down by age groups and will begin at 9 a.m. Locations for competition include Jim Thorpe/Penn Kidder Senior Center, Lehighton Recreation Center, Weatherly Senior Center and Panther Valley Senior Center.
The week rounds out on Friday at Heisler’s Dairy Bar in Tamaqua, where two rounds of miniature golf will be held, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Lunch is on your own, however Heisler’s may not be open for food.
Bowling will be held May 12 at Fritz Lanes and Cypress Lanes, both in Lehighton. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. at both locations.
The outdoor day is tentatively May 13 at Baer Memorial Park. Competition will include the Philip Steigerwalt Memorial Walk, softball throw, horseshoes and bocci. Bring your own lawn chair.
The senior games conclude competition on May 14 at the Lehighton Recreation Center, where bingo, pinochle and rummy and dancing will determine this year’s winners.
A closing banquet will then be held at 4 p.m. on May 16 at the Lehighton American Legion.
