West End event honors late volunteer

More than 60 vendors, a dozen food trucks and a large refrigerator truck will be pulling into the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert this weekend for the second annual Something for Everyone Sale.

The event is open to the public and admission is free. It is Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

“We had a fabulous turnout last year, so that is why we decided to do it again,” said Julie Weiss, assistant secretary of the West End Fair Association. “We are just hoping the weather cooperates.”

This year’s vendors so far include Color Street Nails, Scentsy, Coca-Cola items, Rustic Creations, Morghan Rake teas and antiques, candles, pet items, metal designs, clothing that is new or gently used, homemade clothing, custom wood items, bedding, vintage items and holiday decor.

“Vendor space is still available on our fairgrounds if you’re interested in selling your items; it’s $35 for a 16 by 20 space,” Weiss said.

Concessions include Whitetail Winery, Otto’s Concessions’ funnel cakes, Pocono Potato Chip, Frozen in Thyme Ice Cream, Dale’s Concessions, Digger’s BBQ, Empenada Train, Hot Philadelphia pretzel braids and Coastal Cravings, she said.

The West End Food Pantry is doing a food drive in honor of Cherylynn Frantz, a longtime pantry volunteer, who died March 15 in a car crash on Route 115 in Tunkhannock Township.

“Her light is still here with us, and we are going to carry on her passion for as long as we possibly can and just honor her in that fashion,” said Karena Thek, executive director of the food pantry.

The food collection area will be near the gate where people drive in.

“It is a drive-through, so you don’t even have to get out your car to drop something off,” Weiss said.

The refrigerator truck will be in that area for turkeys and hams, and other perishable items that local families need for the upcoming Easter holiday.

Pasta, cereal, canned goods and other non-perishable items are also needed.

After dropping off food, visitors can proceed to the parking lot and enter the sale area.

“Proceeds from the event help with the upkeep of our fairgrounds,” Weiss said. “We have lots of grass to mow, buildings to keep fixing and general things around the grounds.”

The fairgrounds address is 570 Fairgrounds Road, Gilbert, PA 18331.
